Our repawters have sniffed out some of the best dog water bottles worthy of a big ole woof. Before we delve in, here are some of the things you should think about before purchasing!
What Makes A Good Dog Water Bottle?
Sturdy Material
If you’re as adventureous as we are, then your dog water bottle will need to weather all kinds of locations. By getting one with a sturdy material, you can be confident that it isn’t going to leak or break after dropping it on the floor. You’ll also want to make sure the material is BPA-free.
Some dogs love a good chew too, so a more durable option, such as stainless steel, may be more suitable for your pooch.
Portable Cup/Bowl Feature
Most dog water bottles feature an attached flip-out cup or water bowl. These are much more effective than having to carry a seperate water bowl or filling up your hands. This way your dog can slurp till his heart is content.
Size
If you’re travelling to your local park for your daily walk, you don’t want a huge, weighty bottle of water. On the other hand, if you’re going out for a day-long hike on the mountains, a smaller, lightweight option may not provide the adequate amount of hydration. Getting one that’s somewhere in between may be suitable for all occasions.
Similarly, you’ll want to remember the size of your dog. Your teacup sized Chihuahua, isn’t going to need the biggest bottle in the world. The general rule of thumb is that for every 1lb of body weight, your dog should be drinking a minimum of 15ml of water per day. This can go up by an extra 30-60ml if they’re bursting with energy!
Clips for Easy Carrying
Some dog water bottles come with carabiner clips, so you can snap it on to something like your backpack. This means you won’t have to rummage through your bag to find the water bottle, making your dogs drink more accessible.
Leak-proof
This is one of the key features in finding a water bottle. There’s nothing worse than finding your bottle has leaked all over your things. Worse yet, this could come at a time when your dog really needs some water and you have none left! Opt for a bottle that prides itself on the leak-proof feature.
Think About the Snout
Flat snout breeds may find it difficult to drink out of a normal dog water bottle. In this case you’ll want to make sure the water bowl/cup attachment is fully rounded rather than long and narrow.

This dog water bottle at 550ml was rated as one of our top dogs. While this dog water bottle has many great features, it’s best is the portable handy dandy attachment! This reversible, leaf-shaped bowl fits onto most plastic water bottles with a 30/38 mm bottleneck which means you could take a spare bottle! The bowl folds in and lays flat over the bottle when not in use.
This clever dispenser is dishwasher safe and made from 100% food-safe silicone. It also includes a removable aluminium buckle so you can attach your water bottle to a backpack or belt loop.
Our only pitfall for this design is the durability of the water bottle itself (made with thin plastic). But being able to pop the attachment on any water bottle makes up for it!
lesotc Dog Water Bottles
This dog water bottle is different from others on the market with its exclusive design and 520 ml capacity. It works with a simple squeeze which feeds water into the handy foldable waterbowl that sits on top.
Once you’ve finished, let go of the squeeze and the rest of the water goes right back into the bottle with its in-built pipe system and the bowl folds back in.
One of the things this bottle prides itself on is its leak-proof design. The bottle comes with a waterproof lock which you can turn on before folding the water bowl back in. The sealed silicone gasket also helps to ensure that there is no water leakage.

Now, this is one handy tool holding 250ml for food and 350ml for water! This 2-in-1 dog water bottle has two chambers, one for storing dry food and the other for water. This is perfect for those heading out for a longer adventure.

It’s not on your list but we love our H20K9 bottles – we have one of each size and have had them a few years now but they still look new and I’d really recommend them – the small one is pretty tiny though – but ideal for small trips with a small dog.
