I’m Luke and this is our rescue Greyhound Lucy.

We adopted Lucy in September 2017 from the Lancashire Greyhound Trust – we fell in love with her as soon as we met her. She has three white paws and one that isn’t white with only has three toes. She’s a super friendly and smiley dog and loves meeting new doggies, new humans and investigating any and all DogFuriendly places in and around Manchester.

Today we’re sharing our recommendations for when you’re spending the day with your pooch in Chrolton, South Manchester. Check them out below!

Walkies To Start The Day

A day spent in Manchester’s super cool, trendy and leafy suburb of Chorlton cannot start without a walk around Chorlton Water Park. As the name clearly states, you walk around the large lake. There are usually fishermen on the banks of the lake and opportunities for your dog to have a quick paddle or a full one swim depending on your dog’s skills and of course the famous Manchester weather (it might be iced over). The car park does get quite busy and there are toilet facilities and an information hut should you need to find out more information. There’s a small coffee stand and an ice cream van (depending on the day of the week and the weather).

Little Shopping Spree

Betty and Butch is literally located at the start of Maitland Avenue, the road that leads off Barlow Moor Road and straight to the Chorlton Water Park car park. It’s one of the best dog shops in Manchester, and probably the North West. They sell everything you could ever need for your dog. They have dog coats, dog beds (in a variety of sizes), dog soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, leads, collars, harnesses. Food wise, they sell their own biscuits, they have freezers in the back section containing branded raw dog food (Cotswalds is favourite of Lucy’s) and they have a huge selection of meaty (and not so meaty) of treats (from Soopa), they have buffalo ears, beef and garlic sausages, chicken feet and beef tendons (again all favourites of Lucy’s). The staff are really wonderful and always come over for a cuddle with Lucy, she loves a good ear scratch too.

Lunch Options

There are lots of options for lunch in Chorlton, ranging from traditional pub lunch from the Horse and Jockey, pizzas in a heated terrace from The Laundrette and a selection of sandwiches and an all breakfast menu until 4pm at The Font.

One of our favourite dog friendly places is The Beagle – they serve up a wide selection of Mexican inspired food, including tacos, burritos and bowls plus fried chicken and they have a bottomless brunch (Saturday and Sunday). The inside is large with comfy sofas, smaller tables plus a large semi-outdoor terrace. They also have a lot of options of craft beers plus great cocktails (order a Tommy’s Margarita – you won’t regret it).

One of our favourite things about Chorlton is that as well as having lots of options for lunch, there are a few options for tea and cake! We love to visit Mary and Archie’s Chorlton (they have one in Didsbury too). They have a huge range of freshly made cakes and even more types of tea and coffee to accompany them.

Working Off The Cake

After the sugar rush from your cake – head towards Longford Park for a mini adventure and keep an eye out for the wood and tree sculptures scattered around the park. They also have a Pet’s Corner (including goats!!). There is a cafe at Longford Park (check their Facebook page for opening times) plus there’s wildlife garden to explore with your four-legged friend. You can download a site map from their website (www.friendsoflongfordpark.org.uk) – I would suggest walking the large circular route around the outside the park and work your way through the wildlife gardens and to Pet’s Corner.

Cheeky Pint

Chorlton isn’t short of places to take your furry friend for a cheeky pint, a cheekier glass of wine or anything alcoholic that you fancy. There’s Electrik Bar, Jackson’s Boat (on the other side of the river near Chorlton Water Park), and weather depending there are small dog friendly outside only options The Lead Station, The Elk of Chorlton and The Trevor Arms.

Globe World Kitchen and Cocktails is our favourite place to visit in Chorlton, as well as being very close to where we live, we’ve all always received a warm welcome from all the staff. They have homemade peanut butter biscuits for Lucy (but not exclusively saved for her), which she loves and she always gets at least one every time we visit. The normal menu suitable for humans is excellent, they have a menu inspired by trips around the world, their Vietnamese beef skewers and the halloumi fries are something we can never resist. They have great drinks options too, not that we’ve tried them all but I would highly recommend the Cosmopolitan, their Malbec and anything of their extensive gin menu.
