Dog Friendly Day Out At Chorlton, South Manchester.

I’m Luke and together with my rescue Greyhound Lucy, we love investigating dog friendly Chorlton and places around Manchester.

Today we’re sharing our recommendations for when you’re spending the day with your pooch in the dog friendly Chorlton, South Manchester. Check them out below!

Walkies To Start The Day

A day spent in Manchester’s super cool, trendy and leafy suburb of Chorlton cannot start without a walk around Chorlton Water Park. As the name clearly states, you walk around the large lake. There are usually fishermen on the banks of the lake but plenty of opportunities for your dog to have a quick paddle or swim depending on your dog’s skills (and weather).

The car park does get quite busy and there are toilet facilities and an information hut should you need to find out more information. There’s a small coffee stand and an ice cream van (depending on the day of the week and the weather).

Little Shopping Spree

Betty and Butch is one of the best dog shops in Manchester, and probably the North West. They sell everything you could ever need for your dog. They have dog coats, dog beds (in a variety of sizes), dog soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, leads, collars, harnesses.

Food-wise, they sell their own biscuits and have a huge selection of meaty (and not so meaty) of treats. The staff are wonderful and always come over for a cuddle with Lucy, she loves a good ear scratch too.

Lunch Options

There are lots of dog friendly options for lunch in Chorlton, ranging from traditional pub lunch from the Horse and Jockey, pizzas in a heated terrace from The Laundrette, and a selection of sandwiches and an all breakfast menu until 4pm at The Font.

One of our favourite places in dog friendly Chorlton is The Beagle – they serve up a wide selection of Mexican inspired food, including tacos, burritos and bowls plus fried chicken and they have a bottomless brunch (Saturday and Sunday). The inside is large with comfy sofas, smaller tables plus a large semi-outdoor terrace. They also have a lot of options of craft beers plus great cocktails (order a Tommy’s Margarita – you won’t regret it).

One of our favourite things about Chorlton is that as well as having lots of options for lunch, there are a few options for tea and cake! We love to visit Mary and Archie’s Chorlton (they have one in Didsbury too). They have a huge range of freshly made cakes and even more types of tea and coffee to accompany them.

Working Off The Cake

After the sugar rush from your cake – head towards Longford Park for a mini adventure and keep an eye out for the wood and tree sculptures scattered around the park. They also have a Pet’s Corner (including goats!!). There is a cafe at Longford Park (check their Facebook page for opening times) plus there’s wildlife garden to explore with your four-legged friend.

You can download a site map from their website (www.friendsoflongfordpark.org.uk) – I would suggest walking the large circular route around the outside the park and work your way through the wildlife gardens and to Pet’s Corner.

Cheeky Pint

Chorlton isn’t short of dog friendly pubs and bars to take your furry friend for a cheeky pint, a cheekier glass of wine or anything alcoholic that you fancy. There’s Electrik Bar, Jackson’s Boat (on the other side of the river near Chorlton Water Park), and weather depending there are small dog friendly outside only options The Lead Station, The Elk of Chorlton and The Trevor Arms.

Globe World Kitchen and Cocktails is our favourite dog friendly places to visit in Chorlton, as well as being very close to where we live, we’ve all always received a warm welcome from all the staff. They have homemade peanut butter biscuits for Lucy (but not exclusively saved for her), which she loves and she always gets at least one every time we visit.

The normal menu suitable for humans is excellent, they have a menu inspired by trips around the world, their Vietnamese beef skewers and the halloumi fries are something we can never resist.

They have great drinks options too, not that we’ve tried them all but I would highly recommend the Cosmopolitan, their Malbec and anything of their extensive gin menu.
