Recipe: Gingerbread Dog Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 300g flour (Buckwheat, wholewheat or Coconut)
  • 60g peanut butter (no xylitol)
  • 1 apple peeled, grated, no pips
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp blackstrap molasses or honey
  • 120ml water

There are so many options available for gluten-free flour. Options include Whole-wheat flour, Almond flour, Buckwheat flour and Coconut flour (to name a few).

You’ll also want to opt for natural peanut butter, make sure it has no xylitol as it’s harmful to our pooches. Also, make sure it’s free from palm oil with no added salt/sugar. You can find this in most supermarkets. We love this Poochbutter from Nuts for Pets.

Blackstrap molasses is a natural sweetener made from beet or cane sugar. It’s rich in iron and B vitamins. Just double-check to make sure it doesn’t contain artificial sweeteners (such as Xylitol). We recommend Meridian Blackstrap Molasses.

Alternatively, you can opt for raw honey whenever possible, as it will be in its purest form and has not been pasteurised, heated, or processed we love this one from Black Bee Honey supporting British Bees and their Keepers

You may also want to grab a couple of cookie cutters to make some small quirky shaped pancake bites! We love these Christmas cookie cutters including your classic Gingerbread Man shape. We also love these dog-shaped cookie cutters.

Feeling like a BIGGER challenge? Why not attempt baking a gingerbread house? Amazon has a great set of cookie-cutter templates for a Gingerbread house. Make “Icing/cookie glue” with yoghurt, or Cream Cheese.
