Located in the heart of the city, Abbey Park is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Leicester's busy streets. It's perfect for a good dog walk, and with all the pathways you can take a different route each time.
It's divided into two halves by the river soar, home to huge families of birds, swans and geese. The side closest to the city (on the East) features beautiful gardens, a big playing field (perfect for games of fetch), and a beautiful boating lake. In the summer, there are flowers everywhere, and the park is visited by the popular Billy Bates funfair.
On the western side of the river are the fascinating Abbey Grounds with the remains of the twelfth century Leicester Abbey, and the ruins of Cavendish House, a seventeenth century mansion. The main car park is situated on Abbey Park Road, but there are entrances all the way around the park.
