Ayr Beach is located on the western coastline of Ayrshire in the south west of Scotland.
One of the best beaches in Scotland, Ayr Beach has been awarded a Seaside Award from Keep Scotland Beautiful.
Predominantly sand, Ayr Beach is a great location for picnics and sandcastle building, with a good expanse of grass for children to play on. Admire beautiful views of Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran and on a clear day - Pladda.
A great range of fun facilities are located adjacent to Ayr Beach, including a putting green, crazy golf and children’s play area. Also located on the seafront is Pirate Pete’s Family Entertainment Centre, where children can enjoy the indoor soft play, mini golf and laser games. There is also a café to relax in, perfect for catching a bite to eat or a cup of coffee.
A major tourist attraction in the Victorian era, Ayr’s Low Green continues to be popular with visitors and locals alike. This large expanse of green grass is a wonderful place to take a picnic or play ball games with family and friends.
Part of the Sustrans National Cycle Route 7, the seafront at Ayr Beach is a wonderful place to explore on two wheels. Other activities in the area include birdwatching, fishing at the harbour area, or why not take a boat trip and fish for skate, haddock and cod?
Clearly signposted, Ayr Beach is easily accessible from the town of Ayr where you will find good public transport links via Ayr railway station and Ayr bus station.

We live a short walk away through Ayr Town to get here, from the start of the beach near the harbour, to the bridge at the other end is about 1.5 miles or so. Its got loads of space to run around and there are quiet spells where it’s just you and your dog if you go early enough, it feels like a private beach! Even on busy days you can take your dog to play in the water, and people are really good about picking up their dogs mess. The only thing I would say is be careful coming in August as it is Jelly fish season. However, there is also a little kiosk that sells hot and cold drinks, food, and sweets, and you can walk along the sea wall so you don’t actually have to go onto the beach, you can just enjoy the views! ??

We had such a lovely morning walk along this beach with our dog, Opie. It was his first time on a beach so we arrived early at around 8.30am to enjoy the beach when it was still quiet. The beach is quite long and there is so much space for your dog to run around and play or for you to keep distance from others if your dog prefers that. There is also a car park and facilities close by such as a children’s play park, cafe kiosk and gift shops. Can’t fault it… a lovely place to walk your dog particularly at quiet times.
