Enormous country park, with lots to see and do as well as fantastic dog walking trails. This glorious 260ha estate was once the playground of David Kennedy, 10th Earl of Cassillis – a man who was keen to impress with his wealth and status. The park is planted with conifers and beech, sculpted around miles of sandy coastline dotted with caves, and finished off with a Swan Pond, an ice house, flamboyant formal gardens and fruit-filled glass house.
The castle itself is perched on the Ayrshire cliffs, incorporating everything the earl could wish for in his country home. It was designed by Robert Adam in the late 18th century and is filled to the turrets with treasures that tell the stories of the people who lived here.

Beautiful walks through the forest and near the sea, as far as I’m aware dogs aren’t allowed in the actual castle, but there is more than enough to explore around the grounds! There is a cafe with outdoor seating, a gift shop, and a little book shop which is lovely.. I highly recommend this place, it is simply stunning ?

Our little dog is forever acting like royalty so felt applicable to head to a castle for a day! Culzean Castle is stunning, the grounds are amazing and there are so many different routes you can walk! The cafe has outdoor space and has lovely homemade food. Dogs aren’t allowed in the castle but that certainly didn’t effect our day at all.

We love Culzean Castle and Park!
Dogs aren’t allowed indoors at the Castle itself but it’s still beautiful from the outside. You can walk the legs off even the most energetic dog as the park itself is massive.
You can enjoy walks through the woods, there is a swan pond, lots of interesting buildings sprinkled throughout and you can even walk down to the beach.
There is an amazing play park for kids (dogs aren’t allowed in but there is a picnic area at the entrance so you can hang out there with the dog) and there are plenty of toilets and places to get snacks and ice cream.
It’s quite bumpy if you walk from the castle to the park so anyone with mobility issues or buggies may struggle, however you can drive round to the park and there is a good car park and smooth pathways.
It’s quite a rural location but well worth the drive!

11/08/2022 at 8:15 amWe absolutely loved exploring this huge estate! So much space to explore the woodlands and coastal route was a favourite. Dogs on lead in walled garden which was beautiful too!
Outdoor seating to enjoy some food and drink at the cafe or perhaps a wee ice cream! Would highly recommend a visit if in the area!
