Details
Hengistbury Head is a dramatic headland in Bournemouth situated to the south of Christchurch Harbour. It is an outstanding site for wildlife and archaeology and offers beautiful beaches and views across the New Forest, Isle of Wight and Purbecks. Access is easy for all ages and abilities and there is a land train linking to Mudeford Spit, and ferries to Christchurch. Buses run closeby.
It's a great place for a day out whether you are walking or cycling. You are in the countryside but still close to the town!

We visited Hengistbury Head in February 2020. Parking is available at a charge. There is a visitor centre located at the car park. We headed down towards Mudeford Spit, the pathways are clearly marked and wide allowing for easy walking. When we reached Mudeford Spit we then walked along the beach lined with colourful beach huts. There was a cafe on the beach were we could warm up with a hot drink and a cake, and even doggy donuts!
