Merthyr Mawr Beach is located in the Merthyr Mawr Warren National Nature Reserve near Bridgend, South Wales. The beach is beautiful, boasting sandy dunes with a 30-minute trek through the national reserve. Alternatively, visitors can reach it when the tide is out by following the route of the Ogmore Sea River. Parking is easy, as visitors can gain access to the Merthyr Mawr Warren National Reserve car park for a small fee.
Signage ahead towards the beach goes across the dunes very well. It becomes quite a strenuous walk on the final approach so this beach is ideal for more nervous dogs who would appreciate a peaceful location. The awkward access means that the beach is often less busy than many others. There is some infrequent horseriding on the beach, so there is a chance you may see some happy hackers splashing around on horseback.
Merthyr Mawr Beach is an all-around restful escape where both people and their dogs can enjoy a wonderfully quiet and soul-reviving time.
