Details
An advantage of Edinburgh is how close you are to hill access, with the Pentland Hills approx. 30 minutes from the city centre. The Pentland Hills are approximately 20 miles long, running southwest from Edinburgh towards Biggar. There are many walking routes and access points to the hills and details can be found in the website link. The hills nearer Edinburgh can be quite busy especially on sunny days, and the car parks can fill up quite early but a little further south you can have the hills to yourselves. Our local Dog Furiendly Explorer has walked a ten mile round trip to the Covenanter's Grave, starting at West Linton, and hardly met a soul all day.
Sheep do graze the Pentland Hills so dogs should be kept on a lead and the area ideally avoided during lambing season.
