Details
Rouken Glen Park is a 58 hectare (143 acre) historic park located next to Thornliebank, Giffnock and Newton Mearns, around 10 km (6 miles) to the south of Glasgow city centre. See our visit us page for directions on how to get here.
The Park is steeped in history dating back to around 1530. Further information on the historical use and ownership of the park can be found on our Park History page.
Today the park is a mix of formal and informal spaces where you can enjoy active recreation or find quiet contemplation.
The park was gifted to the people of Glasgow to use as a place of leisure and enjoyment in 1906.
Glasgow signed the park over to Eastwood District Council on a lease for 125 years. Today East Renfrewshire Council proudly has it as their main tourist attraction in the surrounding area.

I had a lovely walk with my dog here and spent around an hour and a half here in total. We wandered around the different routes, played in the open field and wandered around the small loch. There is a café with a window so I was able to get a coffee to take with me on the walk, which was great as it was such a cold day. If you have a family, then there is a large play area and there is a small skate park plus in the summer they have an ice cream van. The car park is always quite full, even on a weekday, so I try to go at quieter times such as early morning. My only criticism is that whilst there is a garden centre with a good choice of pet items at the park, the garden centre is not dog friendly so I couldn’t go inside. Overall though, we really enjoyed our walk here and as you can see from the pictures, my dog got right in amongst the mud in the field and had a great time!
