25/11/2019 at 8:03 amThe MOST dog friendly place I have ever been
We found the Cheddar Paws Bakery on instagram where gorgeous doggies were posing in the pumpkin patch with pupcakes and I was ON IT! ?
I mentioned I’d love to bring my dogs along and the owner made us feel so excited to visit.
When I arrived I was immediately taken by the rugged beauty of Cheddar’s cliffs and the charm of the village nestled into it. Cheddar Gorge, on the northern edge of the village, is the largest gorge in the United Kingdom and includes several show caves, including Gough’s Cave.
The Bakery for Dogs sits amongst other independent shops selling a variety of gifts, ice cream and lots and lots of Cheddar Cheese and Somerset Cider! It really is such a lovely place to go out for the day with your dogs and most places, including the beautiful gorges themselves are dog furiendly – yay! ?
When I arrived the owner recognised us straight away from Instagram. HOW lovely is that?!
There was an amazing choice of pretty dog biscuits, doughnuts, and pup cakes ??????, as well as, treats for owners too.
The owner was so welcoming and couldn’t have made us feel more at ease. He snuggled with my dogs, Rose and Bear, and when I explained that Bear might be a little anxious – he said ‘At Cheddar Paws there is no need to explain your dogs behaviour’ – it was then I knew I had met my tribe and those words keep resonating with me. ?
We sat in the seating area, complete with cosy monochrome dog fabric arm chairs, twinkly fairy lights and of course, the pumpkin patch – the perfect social media backdrop, which they change to reflect the different seasonal celebrations.
We enjoyed a selection of pupcakes accompanied by Pumpkin Spice Lattes in little bowls for the dogs to drink easily from (I mean, every little detail was thought about to make sure all pups and their owners are happy). I had a lovely Cafe Latte too and was even offered Caramel and Vanilla flavours. YUUUM! ?
Lots of people came into the bakery whilst we were there – the dogs made friends with another sweet dog who came in with her pawrents for coffee and cake. It was great because the dog seating area has a little half gate so that the pups can be safe and allowed off lead. All the people who came in gave the dogs lovely strokes and exclaimed about how wonderful the bakery was!
Simply can’t wait to visit again. Thank you Cheddar Paws ? – a special place run by special people. ?

We visited here for the Santa paws present hunt. It was amazing from start to finish! I don’t know who was more impressed with the cakes, me or Ted. Even with it being an hour and a half drive away from us I will be visiting again. The little village has a lovely atmosphere with most places being super dog friendly. It also has plenty of parking which is a bonus.
