Crooked Brewing started two years ago after Steve Dawson and Andrew Evans, the founders of Leeds brewing school ‘Learn to Brew’ met York businessmen Mark Field-Gibson and Hudson Aschmann (over a pint of course). After lots of late nights and long weekends setting up the brewery at the old RAF base at Church Fenton, their beers soon developed a strong following in both cities. From there the idea of a Crooked Tap was born.
Steve spotted the perfect site whilst walking past Acomb Green, the dappled light struck him through the trees, in a scene reminiscent of Jake Blue’s vision of “putting the band back together” in the Blues Brothers (but with less dancing).
Crooked Brewing were determined to bring their love of the craft beer scene to Acomb, so work began. The Crooked Tap opened it’s doors to a welcome crowd in March 2019.
It’s our mission, Mark Field-Gibson says “as well as being a great drinking spot, we believe we can be a proper community hub in Acomb. If you have a book club, a mum’s group or just need a place to meet, then the Tap will be the ideal space for you”.
The Crooked Tap - Acomb opens Tuesday to Sunday. There’s super fast WiFi, perfect for a quick spot of “working from home”, oh and We love dogs, so call in before during and after your walk.
