Brecon Beacons Wild Camping is ideal if you're looking for a back to basics experience in a great location to explore.
Situated within a field surrounded by scenic views of the Beacons - including Penyfan - this minimalist site offers camping pitches for vans, tents and even the odd caravan (you will need to check about caravans with the owner prior to going as they only allow so many on site). From £5 per person per night, camping is very well priced (children under ten and dogs go free) or you can hire a bell tent that is already pitched for £45.
The facilities on-site consist of two (very clean!) portaloos and one tap for water. If you want local amenities (restaurants, bars etc) then you will have to drive. However there is a lot of open space for the children to play. Our dog, Floss was made to feel very welcome and we sat out watching the stars until the early hours. Be aware you are open to the elements so will need to pack accordingly. There is no wi-fi or electric so this site is perfect if you're looking for a little escape.
Every so often the owner drives around and collects your pitch fees, offers fire pits to hire and bags of wood to use (£5 each). Perfect for when the night gets colder!
This site is in a good location to explore the Beacons so would be perfect for a stop off along the way. Its relaxed vibe and remoteness certainly got a thumbs (and paws!) up from us.
