What better way to see the beautiful coastal town of Aberystwyth than from the top of Constitution Hill where you can look out over the town and out to sea. On a clear day the view stretches across most of the length of Wales and 26 peaks of mountains can be seen.
There are a number of ways up to the top but each one as memorable as the other. You can walk up from the spot in Aberystwyth where locals have traditionally 'kicked the bar', a term given to people who walk the length of the prom and end up at the bottom of the hill. If you don't fancy the walk up the side of the hill then you can take the cliff railway which is a tram up the side of the hill. You can purchase either a single and walk down, or a return ticket. The third way is from the small seaside holiday park of Clarach Bay and this takes around 30 minutes and is especially beautiful on a sunny day.
At the top you will find Y Consti which is a restaurant serving excellent food in the day time and it has an á la carte menu for Friday and Saturday evenings. Book early to avoid disappointment! The café also boasts a fully licensed bar and what must surely be the largest beer garden in Aberystwyth.
Also at the top you will find a tenpin bowling alley with pool table and other games to keep the children happy, frisbee golf which is free to play and the camera obscura. This popular re-creation of a Victorian amusement has been one of the prime attractions in the area since its completion in 1985. The massive 14 inch lens makes it one of the world’s largest camera obscuras and visitors can view the moving colour pictures that fascinated our forefathers. In the viewing gallery it is possible to observe 1000 square miles of land and seascape with remarkable clarity. From Easter there is also a free bouncy castle to make good use of.
