I went into a hobby craft store with my assistance dog in training- is is fully task trained and mostly access trained- we were doing general training and we chose here because it isn’t busy and the store is dog friendly-
i was mostly doing heal and make space but it was quiet so my mum sat with the dog as we did stay. She was under full control the whole time and was paying full attention. When a staff manner came over and asked us to stop, we explained to them what we were talking to doing and that they couldn’t legally make us leave due to my dogs work.
I wanna make it clear she is public access trained we were working off leash as it can interfere with her tasks and she isn’t fully trained off leash for some tasks in public

02/03/2022 at 6:10 amDo not expect your assistance dog to be allowed into store if they are unwell and unfortunately have an accident which I cleaned up also offered to pay for the carpet tile which they use to be professionally cleaned. The store management have very little customer service skills and nearly caused my assistance dog to need urgent vet treatment by spraying air freshener in her eyes. This became far more apparent when just inside the store doors a small drop of poo ended up on the floor and the manager quite rudely raised her voice banning my assistance dog from ever entering the store again. Whilst I understand it upset them I know it was direct discrimination against my working dog I took the very difficult decision not to ever go there again as this now causes me to have severe panic attacks and I have blacked out when walking past the store. I firmly believe that Hobbycraft have very if any knowledge of assistance dogs and what great work they do but the law regarding the legal rights of assistance dogs.
