Details
The Howard Arms Hotel is a modernised 18th century inn that is dog friendly and situated in the Cumbrian market town of Brampton, which is about 10 miles from the centre of Carlisle. There are 8 hotel rooms, which are a mixture of single rooms, twin rooms and double rooms. All rooms are en suite and have coffee machines, coffee/ tea hampers, TV’s and fresh milk can be provided. There is also free WiFi throughout the hotel.
The hotel also has a bar/ restaurant on the ground floor that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a range of pub favourites featuring on the menu. In addition to this, they also have a beer garden to be enjoyed in the nicer weather. Dogs are welcome in all areas of the hotel and are charged at £10 extra a night. Bowls of water are also provided to your dog. The hotel has two resident dogs named Sam and Paris, who are ready to welcome new guests on arrival! Charles Dickens is reputed to have stayed overnight at this hotel so all 8 of the hotel rooms are named after characters from Charles Dickens novels and a lot of the artwork/ decor is also linked. In terms of dog walking, there are some lovely scenic routes nearby including Talkin Tar country park and Hadrians Wall.

First of all, this is probably one of the most dog friendly hotels we have visited so far. Our dog was welcome throughout all areas of the hotel and the two resident dogs wandered around greeting guests as we ate our meals in the bar. The hotel and bar was so homely, the staff were excellent, the family who ran the hotel were so friendly, the food was home cooked pub grub (and delicious) and there was an excellent range of drinks. Water bowls were brought out to Opie, which was great and he was allowed to sit on the seats (which I loved as he could happily nap whilst we ate)! Breakfast was delicious too with a very decent choice! Everything was reasonably priced… the overnight stay cost us £90. That included breakfast for 2 adults and the £10 charge for Opie to stay. The Charles Dickens theme throughout the hotel was a lovely added touch. Would definitely recommend! 10/10 and will be visiting again!
