James Hamilton Heritage Park is a 4 Star Visit Scotland accredited activity centre. The park features a 16 acre loch which provides beautiful and tranquil surroundings for our exciting range of water sports, from canoeing to windsurfing. The distance around the loch perimeter path is 1.2 kilometres (3/4 of a mile)
Taster sessions are available so that you can get a feel for various water sports, and both junior and adult courses are provided to help you progress.
The Heritage Park is a Recognised Teaching Centre (RTA) for the Scottish Canoe Association (SCA) and Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and only instructors qualified by the Recognised Governing Body (RGB) are utilised.
Don't panic if water activities are not your idea of fun as there is plenty on offer for those who do not like to take the plunge. Our two adventure playgrounds are also star attractions and there is also a popular fleet of fun boats. We can also offer ornithologists some excellent bird watching opportunities from our bird sanctuary.

We really enjoy walking around the James Heritage loch. We tend to walk round it quite a few times as we enjoy a longer walk but the bonus is you can tailor how many times you walk round the loch to the length of walk you are looking for. There is plenty of car parking on sight as well as 2 parks, a cafe (which isn’t dog friendly but you could always take food away) and there are also water sports in the summer. There are also some small areas with picnic benches as well as park benches regularly throughout the route, so sometimes we will take a coffee and watch the world go by. If you enjoy bird watching, this is a sanctuary so plenty to look out for. Just be cautious of your dog if some of the birds have their young as the swans can be quite aggressive here and it is best to just get some distance/ get passed quickly. Overall, we enjoy this route.
