Perched on Bournemouth's famous East Cliff, Bournemouth Carlton Hotel, BW Signature Collection (formerly a Hallmark Hotel) offers dramatic views across the bay.
Built in the Victorian era, the hotel has a rich history and has attracted some illustrious guests over the years, including Harold Macmillan, Bobby Moore and General Eisenhower, who debated D-Day landing plans with Field Marshal Montgomery over lunch at the hotel during World War Two.
Meander down the path from the clifftop and you'll be basking on the golden sands in no time, while a 15-minute walk along the seafront takes you to the Oceanarium and Bournemouth Pier. Heading out of town, wander among the flowerbeds at Boscombe Chine Gardens or dig for fossils along the Jurassic Coast.
Our business guests are within walking distance of Bournemouth International Centre for conferences and exhibitions, and we deliver fantastic lunch and afternoon tea stops for tour groups.
When you're not out and about, there's plenty to keep you occupied in the hotel itself. Our outdoor pool is surrounded by sun loungers and palm trees, giving it a distinctly tropical feel, and you can enjoy a sizzling summer feast from our pizza ovens and barbecues. Indoors, there's a gym, heated swimming pool and sauna.
Many of our 76 guest rooms have views across the bay, and some also feature a private balcony for gazing out to sea. We have spacious family rooms and luxury suites for those who really want to push the boat out. Alternatively, you can make yourself at home in one of self-catering apartments with private patios.

Our stay at the Hallmark Bournemouth Carlton was my first ever holiday! We came away for my pawrents 1st wedding anniversary in February 2020 for 2 nights (pre-COVID). There is a car park outside the hotel for a fixed charge for hotel guests, you had to register your number plate. We were advised at booking there is a pet fee of £15 per dog per night but we would receive a doggy welcome pack. After checking in we noticed there was no doggy welcome pack, reception said they would arrange this with house keeping. Unfortunately in the end it never came but they did discount us on the pet fee in lieu of this. Our room was comfortable and spacious with tea and coffee making facilities. There was a large bath in the bathroom which came in handy when I needed a post-beach trip wash! There is a bar and restaurant where a buffet breakfast was served daily. Dogs were not allowed to dine in the restaurant but my humans could sit with me next door in the bar to eat their breakfast and took it in turns to go up to the buffet. The hotel was right on top of Bournemouth cliffs with great views of the sea and a gorgeous gated garden which was perfect for toilet trips/ a quick run around – note that it wasn’t well lit after dark. We came across another larger dog during our stay also.
It was a 15 minute walk down the east cliff slope path to Bournemouth pier and local attractions.
I would add that the lift is very old style traditional lift with trellis shutters. It was very cramped inside so the humans had to take it in turns when we were bringing our luggage up to the room.
It now seems that the Hallmark Hotel group was bought out by Best Western in May 2020. The hotel is still advertised as pet friendly on the Best Western website with the same charge of £15 per night.
