    A great base for Dogstival!

We stayed at the Avon Causeway for a long weekend for Dogstival 2021! It was a great base, being only a 20 minute drive from the event. Closely located to Bournemouth airport and Christchurch – you can choose to visit the local areas of Christchurch and Bournemouth or head into the New Forest national park. Dogs are charged at £10 per night of your stay. We stayed in a double room which had plenty of space for all of our belongings, including my crate. The room came well equipped with refreshments – including some delicious homemade cake, hand santizer and TV. The bathroom was small but all we need for a short stay with a shower and toilet facilities. The bed was very comfy and we all slept well. The WiFi unfortunately wasn’t working during our trip and with limited mobile phone signal it forced us to spend most of the weekend “offline”. So come prepared with directions to onward destinations just in case! The hotel and pub is based at the old Hurn railway station – and is charmingly decorated with old railway memorabilia. Hotel guests get to dine in the old Pullman carriage from the Orient Express that now resides outside the pub, unfortunately doggos aren’t allowed aboard the train due to space restrictions and it being very echoey (in case of barking). So if your human wants to dine on the train they will need to leave you in the hotel room. Unfortunately I can’t be left on my own due to separation anxiety so we were served breakfast in the old waiting room, the only original part of the old station building. There was a choice of cooked and cold breakfast items that were served to order from 8am. It set up us well for a busy day exploring. For toilet trips, there is a narrow grass bank at the entrance to the car park (adjacent to the main road) – which is still well lit at nighttime thanks to the flood lights at the entrance sign.
