There are not many dog-furiendly beaches to visit in the summer months, and there are not many as beautiful and scenic as Ynyslas near Aberystwyth. Popular with locals, tourists, and even adventurous cats, for its outstanding walks, stunning views and beautiful landscape, you, your pooch, and your feline friend will love it here.
Three miles of golden sandy beach, with walks through the huge sand dunes, Ynyslas is located just north of the tourist village Borth. Ynyslas beach has views around Cardigan bay and is visited by a quarter of a million people each year. Dogs are welcome on the beach all year round and the sand dunes stretch from the car park to the beach. Behind the dunes at the car park is an ice cream van and this is where you will find stunning views across the Dyfi Estuary to Aberdyfi and up the estuary towards Machynlleth. Caution must be taken regarding the water at the Estuary side and swimming is prohibited due to very strong and dangerous currents in the estuary. Ynyslas is a nature reserve and there is plenty of wildlife to be seen throughout the year.

Ynyslas beach is a great place to bring your doggo!! It’s a large area of sand, stones and the most fantastic sand dunes. Ynyslas is also one of Wales’ all year round dog friendly beaches. From stunning scenic views, to doggy ice cream at the local Ice Cream shop – it’s a pawtastic place to go.
Ynyslas beach is also home to the famous prehistoric forest which was buried under water and sand more than 4,500 years ago. The petrified trees lie between Ynyslas and Borth and the forest has become associated with a 17th Century myth of a sunken civilization known as ‘Cantre’r Gwaelod’, or the ‘Sunken Hundred’.
