Today it’s National Pizza Day and what better way to celebrate than eating a pizza? We know that from the moment your pizza gets delivered or is fresh out of the oven, your dog is sure to flash those dreamy puppy dog eyes. So this National Pizza Day, we’re encouraging you to make them their very own special, dog friendly pizza!

Please Note

We are not doggy nutritionists and every dog is an individual. What might be good for most might not be good for another.

Always tailor each recipe to your own dog’s needs and tastes. If for example, you own a small dog like a Shih Tzu or Border Collie Chihuahua mix, then make sure you make the pizza in smaller sizes, so it’ll be easier for them to eat. If you have any questions about your dog’s diet, please contact your vet. If you notice your dog has any adverse reaction to any of the treats stop feeding immediately and contact your vet.

First of all, you want to start with the healthy pizza base!

You will need:

  • 130g flour (Wheat or Coconut)
  • 200ml coconut milk or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp parsley
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1 egg
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.
  2. In a large bowl mix together the flour, oregano, parsley, and basil and mix the dry ingredients together.
  3. Make a well in the middle of the mix
  4. Add the egg, and then slowly add the milk or chicken broth.
  5. Mix the dough together until it’s a little sticky (try to avoid over mixing).
  6. Spray a pizza pan with a non-stick spray and then press your dough into the pan.
  7. Bake your pizza for 10-15 minutes then take it out and cover the base with your selected pizza toppings (see below)
  8. Bake your pizza for another 10-15 minutes. (The base should turn light brown on the edges, and the cheese should just start to brown).

There are so many options available for gluten-free flour. Options include Whole-wheat flour, Almond flour, Buckwheat flour and Coconut flour (to name a few).

There are so many options available for lactose-free milk, you could choose between soy milk, almond milk, or coconut milk. Alternatively, you could use a low sodium chicken broth or water.

You may want to pick up a pizza pan, to help keep the shape of the pizza.

Veggie Toppings: Shredded carrots spinach, cauliflower, peas, broccoli and green beans
