Details
Built in the 1200s, this castle has seen its fair share of battles between English and Scottish forces. Complete with a chapel, prison and surrounding woodland, there is something for everyone. There is access to the Clyde Walkway, a wonderful riverside walk for stretching legs after an afternoons history.Following Historic Scotland dogs policy, dogs are permitted throughout the whole site and must remain on lead and attended at all times.

As a bit of a history buff, I love visiting Historic Scotland sights. The added bonus of Bothwell Castle is the fact that my dog could come along with me. I enjoyed walking around the ruins with my dog before taking a walk along the Clyde side afterwards. The parking was fairly scarce but we did manage to park along the side of the road as lot’s of other cars were doing. It was a lovely warm day when we were there so it was nice to wander around, see the history and at the same time, enjoy quality time with my dog. Thumbs up from me!
