Donnington Castle is an English Heritage site near Newbury. Both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I are thought to have stayed here. Although much of the castle has been destroyed, large areas of defences remain which protected the castle during the English Civil War. Dogs are welcome on leads. For the humans there is car parking available on site for a small charge of £2. It is a very popular dog walking spot and there are plenty of grassy areas to stop for a picnic too.
