Even ruined, the stronghold of the mighty earls of Mar is a fine example of a 13th-century castle, with its curtain wall, four round towers, hall and chapel.Explore the large site and surrounding area whilst learning about the Earls of Mar and the castles abandonment after the Jacobite rebellion.Predominantly a ruin, dogs are permitted across the whole site. Following Historic Scotland's dog policy, dogs must remain on lead and be attended at all times.

This is quite a large site and offers plenty of space to have a good walk. The castle really fits the definition of a ruin with little standing, but there is plenty of interesting history on the signs.
