The Dinosaur Museum transports visitors back into the prehistoric world of the dinosaurs. Set in a converted Victorian schoolhouse, see dinosaur skeletons, walk among life-size reconstructions including Stegosaurus and T-Rex, and learn through hands-on interactive displays.
Hear the sounds and even smell the breath of a T-Rex as you explore Jurassic Dorset. Learn from the pioneers of fossil discovery including Mary Anning and Richard Owen and explore the rich dinosaur heritage of the Jurassic coast by seeing and touching the real fossil displays including dinosaur heads, teeth, eggs and even Poo!
Make your own dinosaur discoveries in the excavation pit, solve dinosaur puzzles and dare to put your hand in a feely box! Dinosaurs even come to the forefront of technology with the I-pad games and virtual flashcards
Enhance your visit with free fun sheets to win a Dino hunters medal and explore the gift shop for that perfect dinosaur gift including fossils, models, clothing and books.
Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the Dinosaur Museum at all times. Other dogs are welcome at the museums discretion.
The Life And Times Of Darcy

We’re on holiday in Dorset and its been pouring with rain and blowing a gale all week. We were looking for things to do indoors that we could take our dog with us to and came across this little museum. Online it states that dogs are down to their discretion. Speaking to the lady at the counter she said its because when they’re busy they don’t want the dogs getting trodden on, not because they don’t want them, they just don’t want to see them get hurt. Our dog got lots of fuss and attention from the staff member.
The museum itself is rather small but they have filled it with as much as they can while still leaving ample walking space and not crowding it. There are many displays, a few interactive displays and lots of reading to do, aswell as a few screens with some short videos and one screen upstairs with a short film.
They have a little gift store display with lots of typical gift store toys aimed at children.
Overall we spent almost 3 hours in there reading and watching everything at our own pace and our dog was quite happy having a sniff round and chilling in the floor as we read stuff.
