Looking at those sad eyes before you close the door and leave to do some shopping is heartbreaking. The good news is that there’s plenty of dog friendly shops that you can visit with your pooch, meaning you won’t have to leave them behind, tie them up outside or worst of all, leave them in the car.

Here are some of our favourite dog friendly shops:

John Lewis

John Lewis pride themselves on being very family orientated, and now they extend that to our canine companions. This tail-wagging re-tail store has opened its doors to dogs across the UK! Well behaved dogs must be on a fixed lead at all times unless they are being carried.

WHSmiths

Exciting update for dog lovers: WHSmith is now dog friendly across the UK! This well-loved high street staple, offering books, stationery, and more, has opened its doors to our four-legged friends. This move is part of WHSmith’s aim to create an inclusive shopping experience for all family members, including the furry ones. While most stores are welcoming dogs, there might be some restrictions in specific areas or locations, such as shopping centres or airports.

Seasalt Cornwall

Dogs are welcome in all Seasalt stores across the UK. Not only do they do a lovely range of clothing for women and an amazing selection of gifts. They even have their own collection of accessories for our furry friends including bandanas and cosy blankets. These are all selected by their in-house quality testing pooch Pepé the Cockapoo. They sometimes have some treats behind the tills too!

Waterstones

Yes, you heard correctly! Our favourite book store is more than happy to welcome well-behaved dogs into their store. Not only do they sell books, but they have a wide range of gifts, games and lush stationery pieces. They have something for everyone!

Apple

Most Apple stores will happily welcome our well-behaved pups, whether you’re visiting the genius or perusing the products.

Mountain Warehouse

Mountain Warehouse will welcome your pooch with open arms – even if they have muddy paws. Here you can pick up some perfect gifts for the adventurer in your life, or some tail-wagging dog walking gear. They also sell some lovely dog accessories too – so, while you’re there you can pick up a gift or two for the pooch!

Urban Outfitters (Some Locations)

The staff here, love to welcome our urban pups through the door, with complimentary belly rubs of course. Whether you’re after some trendy pieces of clothing or a quirky selection of gifts – this place has it all.

Fat Face

Fat Face again is a well-known dog friendly shop. They’re very welcoming to our four legged friends. They have something for everyone with cosy knits, slippers and pyjama sets.

White Stuff

For stylish clothing, accessories, homewares and gift shop, this well-known dog friendly shop is the place to be. Dog’s are welcome in all White Stuff shops – perfect for that fashion fix.

Dobbies Garden Centres

Well behaved dogs are allowed on leads in-store and allowed in the outdoor patio areas of the restaurant. They even supply fresh drinking water via a Dog Drinking Station.

Oliver Bonas

Dogs are always welcome here. This place has the most perfect gifts in fashion, homeware and furniture! You may even find a couple of gorg’ gifts for the dog lover in your life.

Hobbycraft

Whether you’re creating crafts, making decorations or designing your next pupfluencer outfit, this is the perfect place to pick up bits and pieces. We especially love the dog coat patterns and dog-shaped cookie cutters they sell here. They love welcoming our furry pals across all stores so long as they’re kept on a lead.

Looking to add a personal touch to your crafting projects? Consider custom patches from Patches Co. They offer a range of options to create unique patches that can be sewn onto your shopping bag or used in other craft projects.

CeX

CeX has rolled out the welcome mat for our furry friends in select stores across the UK, making it a fantastic destination for pet owners looking to trade or shop for electronics, games, and more with their four-legged companions by their side. While not all stores are pet-friendly yet, many locations from Aberdeen to York invite you to shop alongside your pet, provided they’re on a lead and you’re mindful of others. Always welcoming service animals nationwide, CeX is progressively expanding its pet-friendly policy, so keep an eye out for updates and get ready to enjoy a tech shopping experience with your loyal companion!

Swansea’s Quadrant Shopping Centre

Swansea’s Quadrant Shopping Centre is barking up the right tree, becoming Wales’s first indoor shopping centre to roll out the red carpet for our four-legged friends. This pawsome development means you can now enjoy a spot of retail therapy without having to leave your furry sidekick at home. The entire centre and eighteen of its shops are now dog friendly, responding to the huge demand from shoppers who see their pets as part of the family.

Canine Code for Dog friendly Shopping

  • Always keep your dog on a lead.
  • Check whether there are restrictions in certain areas of the store.
  • Have a small dog? Consider carrying them around or using a carrier to prevent being caught underfoot on a busy shop floor or market.
  • Nobody knows your dog better than you, so consider how sociable your dog is and whether or not they will be comfortable walking through the retail jungle. If they are nervous about certain situations, particularly other humans and dogs then it’s probably best to leave them at home where they feel most comfortable. Click here to read our blogs about nervous dogs in dog friendly places.
  • Be respectful of other shoppers and staff, not everyone is going to love dogs as much as we do.
  • Be aware of other dogs in the store. If you meet another dog, always approach them slowly, calmly and quietly and give them as much space as possible.
