Making the dog friendly pizza base

First of all, you want to start with the healthy pizza base!

You will need:

  • 130g flour (Wheat or Coconut)
  • 200ml coconut milk or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp parsley
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1 egg
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.
  2. In a large bowl mix together the flour, oregano, parsley, and basil and mix the dry ingredients together.
  3. Make a well in the middle of the mix
  4. Add the egg, and then slowly add the milk or chicken broth.
  5. Mix the dough together until it’s a little sticky (try to avoid over mixing).
  6. Spray a pizza pan with a non-stick spray and then press your dough into the pan.
  7. Bake your pizza for 10-15 minutes then take it out and cover the base with your selected pizza toppings (see below)
  8. Bake your pizza for another 10-15 minutes. (The base should turn light brown on the edges, and the cheese should just start to brown).

Dog friendly pizza toppings

With your base in place, you’re ready to create the pizza of their dreams.

You have your favourite toppings, and you may find your pooch will have theirs too. Experiment with different recipes until you find their favourite.

Meatepaw

  1. Start with a sauce. Spread cooked, mashed sweet potato on the base first.
  2. If your pooch is okay with dairy, sprinkle a very small amount of low-fat, shredded mozzarella on the base.
  3. Add a selection of meats such as lean ground beef or turkey, ham, pepperoni and/or some crumbled cooked bacon.
  4. Add some shredded carrots for a veggie balance.
  5. Bake the pizza until the cheese melts and the ingredients are hot.

Veggi Supreme

  1. Start with a sauce. Spread cooked, mashed sweet potato on the base first.
  2. If your pooch is okay with dairy, sprinkle a very small amount of low-fat, shredded mozzarella on the base.
  3. Add some vegetables on top. Our favourites include carrots, spinach, cauliflower, peas, broccoli and green beans.
  4. Bake the pizza until the cheese melts and the ingredients are hot.

Barkbeque Chicken

  1. Start with a sauce. Spread cooked, mashed sweet potato on the base first.
  2. If your pooch is okay with dairy, sprinkle a very small amount of low-fat, shredded mozzarella on the base.
  3. Sprinkle chunks of cooked chicken breast (use boneless skinless chicken breast to keep the pizza lean full of protein).
  4. You can also add crumbled bacon bits with the chicken.
  5. Bake the pizza until everything is hot and melty, about 10 to 15 minutes.

Dog’s Dessert:

Our dogs are a sucker for something sweet, and with dessert pizzas on the rise for us humans, it’s only fair our pooch gets to try one too.

  1. Start with a sauce. Spread cooked, mashed sweet potato on the base first, or use yoghurt, peanut butter.
  2. Top the pizza with assorted safe fruits like sliced apples, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, oranges, peaches, raspberries, mangos and pear slices. (Only serve your pup fruit in moderation, it contains high sugar content and it is not healthy in large amounts).
  3. Don’t put the pizza back in the oven, serve the pizza without baking it any further.

Note, please make sure your Peanut Butter does NOT contain Xylitol, it’s also best to use one with no added Salt.
