Our Guide to Dog Friendly Dundee City Centre

Dundee is filled with plenty of creative and cultural attractions. Dog-friendly restaurants, bars, shops and places to stay. Here’s our guide on how to enjoy dog friendly Dundee with your pooch. Thanks to our Explorer and show-stopping tour guide Storm for this tail-wagging guide.

Morning Walkies

A 10-minute walk from the centre will find yourself standing in front of the V&A museum. Here you have 3 walk options:

  1. You can stroll along the waterfront taking in the beautiful areas of Fife and the newly renovated waterfront
  2. You can take a stroll in Slessor Gardens. A lovely park for you doggy although may not be the best to let your furry friend off-lead as its surrounded by busy roads. Around the outskirts of here are mini gardens all with different themes for you to explore.
  3. Your last option is to stroll across the Tay Road Bridge over into Fife and take in the stunning views of Dundee from the other side of the river.

If you desire a more hiking walk you may wish to conquer The Law Hill. It’s a 27-minute walk from the City Centre and when you get to the top it offers amazing views of Dundee.

Breakfast or Brunch

There’s plenty of foodie finds to enjoy in dog friendly Dundee.

You can grab some brunch at The Giddy Goose between 9:30 and 1pm. This is a Bohemian styled wine and pizza bar, it defines itself as specialising in organic and ethically sourced wines, stone-baked pizzas and small plates.

If you fancy something different for your breakfast you and your pooch need to visit The Bach A little piece of New Zealand in Scotland! You and your pooch will always receive a warm welcome, with a selection of dog beds to choose from, a fresh bowl of water and plenty of cuddles. You can really get away from the hustle and bustle of life in here, with such a laid-back vibe and relaxing atmosphere.

The food and coffee are delicious. They have a balance of dishes for varying palates and a decent selection of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. There’s a bunch of things to try and many flavours to experience.

Stopping For a Coffee

If you are in the city and fancy a coffee you should check out some of these spots:

Blend Coffee Lounge in Reform Street, always reminds us of Friends and the Central Perk coffee shop. It’s a very relaxed and chilled out atmosphere and always ready to welcome your pooch.

Caffé Nero is a big chain who are dog-friendly and always on hand to welcome your pooch. They aim to make great coffee and to have the feel of an independent chain. They claim to still feel like a small start-up.

Things to Do

You’re never short of things to do in dog friendly Dundee. We have a couple of favourite ways to spend the day and make memories with the pooch.

You can visit the Transport Museum and learn about Dundee’s tram network, railway and marine history. Look around the constantly changing selection of cars, commercial vehicles and buses. Get up close and personal with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and have a look at the recreation of Dundee’s first flying machine.

If the transport museum doesn’t take your fancy you can always face your chances of escape at the Dundee Escape Rooms. Can your faithful hound help solve the puzzles to escape within the hour? Each room has the same principles. Solve the puzzles, clues and riddles. Find the key and escape. All in 60 minutes. One tip THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.

For safety reasons, not all escape rooms are dog-friendly so check before booking. Your doggie will receive a warm welcome at their venues

Lunch

Next up – Lunch! One thing is for certain, you’re never short of a place to lunch with the dog.

If pizza if your favourite then you need to head over to BrewDog and get one along with one of their beers.

If you’re in the mood for some good food and relaxed atmosphere then you need to head straight for The Tinsmith. One of the best joints for burgers they have lots of amazing and different burgers. If a burger is not your thing though don’t worry there is plenty of other things for you to try.

If you would like some more fancy surroundings the Malmaison Hotel Bar allows dogs in and they serve food within the bar area too.

Drinks

When it comes to drinks, there are a few for you to choose from:

Again, we will mention in the Malmaison Hotel Bar. The Cocktails are a must-try.

The Wine Press can also be a good spot for you too. Although if you have a nervous dog this place can be pretty full and noisy sometimes, especially at the weekends.

The Tinsmith is also a good place if you are looking for some cocktails if you make it here make sure you try the jam doughnut shot.

Shopping

If your looking to shop with your pooch this is a little harder we have found… but there are some shops that allow us in.

Waterstones Dundee welcomes dogs so you can take the pooch and explore all the goodies they have to offer. There is a cafe upstairs but as far as we are aware it is not dog friendly.

If its Diamonds or Jewellery you are after then Stephen Henderson the Jewellers are ready to welcome your dogs so they can help you pick out the right piece.
