Tantallon Castle is equal parts imposing and beautiful. The quarter mile walk from the car park is a good opportunity to admire the 14th century ruin and stretch legs. Once in the grounds, you are free to roam around and climb the tower for stunning views of Bass Rock and Berwick Law.As with all dog friendly Historic Scotland sites, dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and not left unattended. However, there is plenty of wildflowers and animals to keep dogs noses going if they are not inclined to seek out ghosts as you stroll around.Ask the friendly staff for a copy of the kids quiz, it's a perfect way to make sure you capture all that Tantallon has to offer - and if you get all the answers right, you'll even get a sticker! If you have time, why not pair this castle with the nearby and equally dog friendly Dirleton Castle and Gardens? If your pooch has had too much history for the day, Yellowcraig beach is also a short drive away to have a run round and shake off the cobwebs.

A great castle – lots to see and plenty of space to wander about. Water bowls were available outside the giftshop and staff were friendly.
The castle itself has lots of spiral staircases, but they are worth the effort to get to the top for the stunning views.
